Events update for October-November 2017 in and around Houston

 Thursday October 26 it’s Blaggards at  T-Bone Tom’s Steakhouse, Kemah, TX.  As always, we encourage you to visit the Blaggards Facebook page or website for up to date info as they are always gigging.


Saturday afternoon, October 28, 2017 it’s Ed Miller, Texas’ finest Scottish import performing at Carolyn’s Cottonwood House Concert. Ed Miller  has been hailed as “one of the finest singers to come out of the Scottish Folksong Revival” and as “one of Scotland’s best singing exports.” Originally from Edinburgh, he has for many years been based in Austin, Texas, where he earned graduate degrees at UT. Please arrive between 2:30 and 2:40 for visiting, and light snacks.  The music begins at 3:00.  All guests are invited to stay for a song circle after the concert, so bring your instruments and voices.  Thursday November 2, 2017 at 7pm it’s Benjamin Jaber and Don Penzien in a Houston House Concert hosted by Matt and Yana Carter.  Benjamin Jaber began has been playing traditional Irish music since high school on uilleann pipes as the wooden flute and tin whistle.  He has played with such well-known Irish players as Paddy Keenan, Mick Moloney, Eileen Ivers, and onstage with The Chieftains. Don’s Penzien plays guitar with musicians such as Legacy and Máirtín de Cógáin and also adds whistle, bodhran and vocals to arrangements. Saturday November 4, 2017 from 6:30-8:30pm at EQ Heights, Constant Billy welcomes in the fall. It’s the season for giving thanks and we thank our audience for joining with us as we sing old songs, new songs and stuff you just don’t hear every day!   No cover charge and free parking.  EQ Heights is located at 1030 Heights Boulevard in Houston. Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 3PM, it’s a house concert featuring the great Scottish singer Jim Malcolm. Travelling the world with his guitar, harmonicas, and engaging wit, he sings the traditional songs of Scotland and his own masterfully crafted songs in a style which is modern and accessible, yet utterly authentic. He is highly regarded as an interpreter of the songs of Robert Burns, and has been described as “one of the finest singers in Scotland in any style”. Saturday November 11, 2017 from 3-6pm Blaggards return to Houston from a long road trip to headline the Stout Irish Fest at The Continental Club, 3700 Main Street – Houston, Texas.  All ages welcome!
